ERP vs. Custom Build

Five questions, about two minutes, and an honest read on whether a ready-made platform like Edutig or Linetig or a custom build is the better starting point for your business.

These are the same five questions we work through internally before recommending a platform or a custom build to anyone. Your answers stay in your browser; nothing is stored or sent.

1. How standard are your business processes?
2. How quickly do you need to launch?
3. Do off-the-shelf modules cover most of what you need?
4. What's your budget flexibility?
5. How much legacy/proprietary system integration is needed?

A hybrid approach is worth exploring

You're in the middle: a customized deployment of Edutig/Linetig, or a custom build on top of proven components, could both work. Worth a scoping conversation.

How the scoring works, and what it can't judge

A build-versus-buy tool from a company that sells both sides of the answer should show its reasoning. Here it is, including the parts a short quiz genuinely cannot decide.

How the recommendation is scored

Each answer nudges the score toward a ready-made platform, toward a custom build, or stays neutral. Very standard processes, a tight launch window, strong off-the-shelf module coverage, a fixed budget, and little legacy integration all point to an ERP. A process that is itself your competitive advantage, flexible timeline and budget, and extensive integration needs point to custom. Only a clear margin either way produces a firm recommendation.

Why the middle result is honest, not evasive

If your score lands near the center, the tool says so instead of forcing a verdict, because in that zone the right answer is usually a hybrid: a ready-made platform as the operational backbone, with custom software built around the one workflow that actually needs to be special. Pretending five questions can resolve that split would be a sales pitch wearing a calculator costume.

Why we don't have a thumb on the scale

We build and sell both sides of this decision: Edutig and Linetig as ready-made platforms, and fully custom software as a core service. Whichever way your answers point, we have a way to help, which means we have no institutional reason to steer the scoring. Most vendors you'll compare us against only sell one answer, and their advice tends to arrive at it.

What five questions can't tell you

The tool can't weigh a proprietary pricing model, a specific compliance regime, the state of your legacy data, or the internal politics of a rollout, and any of those can override the score. It also can't run the three-to-five-year cost of ownership comparison, which needs your actual licensing, build, and maintenance numbers. Treat the result as which way the evidence already points, not as the decision itself.
